vendredi le 10 janvier

Joyeux vendredi! We had a busy day today, and got lots done. In French, we introduced the idea of summarizing, with a focus on non-fiction texts. We read a short text on "La lune" (the moon), and tried to pick out the most important facts from the text. We then moved into etudes sociales, in which we discussed the idea of culture. What is it that makes us unique? What does it mean to be a Canadian - or an ancient Egyptian, or an Aboriginal person? This all comes down to the idea of culture. In language we discussed how to use our voice effectively. Don't just say your speech in a monotone - use different tones, different volumes, and pauses! In math we started a new project: students are making a hamster house! They need to make a house out of two 3-D shapes, and find its height, length, and width; its volume; and its surface area. They must also give a brief explanation of why someone should buy their house.

For this weekend:
-Be sure to practice those speeches! Write them, but also practice them as you write. Remember: The more you practice, the better it goes!
-Students are welcome to work on their hamster houses over the weekend - they will be due for Wednesday. Don't leave them at home!

Have a wonderful weekend! We're (hopefully) doing a full five days next week...see everyone on Monday!
