lundi le 17 mars

It was wonderful to see everyone back today! We had a busy first day back. It all started off with setting some new goals for the week in French, language, math, and learning skills (working towards our Magic 15!) We then launched into French by taking some time for discussion of our holidays (en francais), and writing a journal entry. In language we introduced the idea of a persuasive essay. We learned how an essay is put together - a thesis statement supported by three arguments, which are supported by evidence. Students will be free to write an essay on the topic of their choice, provided it's appropriate for school and not dealing with adult issues. For tonight they have to come up with a thesis statement and three arguments that could support this thesis, as we'll be doing more planning and research tomorrow. In math, we introduced fractions by giving each student a set of fraction strips. They'll find these highly useful in the coming weeks! We also started a new partnership with Ms. Calabretta in the library. For the next six weeks, we will be doing a media literacy unit on commercials. Today we looked at a few commercials and discussed their overt (obvious) messages, and their implied (subtle, not outright stated) messages. We will be working towards making our own commercials in the weeks ahead.

For homework tonight:
-Keep bringing in those Camp Wildfire forms! We need to know numbers as soon as possible.
-For tomorrow, everyone must have a thesis statement for their essay, as well as three arguments that can support this statement. You must have this done before you can begin researching and writing for your essay.

Have a wonderful night, and I'll see you all tomorrow!
