Welcome back! We had a great start to our week! In French, we introduced/reviewed conjugating ER verbs in the present. Although verbs get somewhat of a bad rap in French sometimes, they are the building blocks of the language. When you know your verbs, you can talk about anything! As we get better at these, we'll be able to talk and write about all sorts of exciting things! Also, we began summarizing simple story books in French by picking out les personnages (the characters), la mise (the setting), le debut (the beginning), le millieu (the middle), et la fin (the end). This is the beginning of understanding more complex texts! In language, we continued to practice procedural writing, and we got to know the writing process that professional authors use to produce texts. In math, we did a problem solving evaluation that will be quite an eye-opener to many...see below for the problem, for those who still need to complete it. In etudes sociales, we learned some fun facts about Canada (Grade 5s) and learned about the Group of Eight (Grade 6s). This also served as a useful French reading comprehension exercise.
Tonight's homework is:
-Review conjugating ER verbs at home. The dictee will be delayed until Friday the 17th, to give everyone a chance to enjoy the long weekend. For a practice idea, choose five verbs from the list given in class, and conjugate them.
-Tuesday's reading responses are due tomorrow.
-The math problem is to be handed in tomorrow if it wasn't done today. Here is the problem:
For Grade 5s: A medium coffee at Tim Horton's costs $1.62.
For Grade 6s: A 1/4 pound hamburger combo at Wendy's costs $7.85.
If you bought a coffee/combo every day, how much would it cost you over:
a) 30 days
b) One year
c) 40 years
Remember to find answers for all three lengths of time (30 days, one year, 40 years), and show the four steps of problem solving clearly. You are being marked on both your problem solving process and your communication!
A demain, mes amis!
